The court fees at Clapham South as of 1st April 2011 went up from £5 to £8/hr which is quite an increase - even the groundsman agreed that the hike in price was surprising. Maybe if enough people make petitions to Lambeth Council they might review their pricing policy.
Submitted by Chris2Wimbledon on 01 Apr '11 22:49 | Clapham South has 8 tennis courts - a row of five (floodlit) and a block of 3 (without floodlights). These courts are currently undergoing refurbishment through an agreement between Lambeth Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). The Clapham Common tennis court makeover budget has been set at £250,000 and is expected to be completed within 3 months. The project will include the resurfacing of the current courts, as well as installing state-of-the-art floodlights on five of the courts. The previous lighting was very poor and local residents objected to stronger lights being installed. However, the use of proper shielding will now prevent excessive light reaching beyond the confines of the court area.
Submitted by Chris2Wimbledon on 04 Mar '10 20:45 | Courts are all decent enough, except 8 which has a badly patched dent at the baseline. The floodlights are pretty poor because nearby residents objected to decent ones being put it, but they are just about useable once you get used to it. Bookings are £5 per hour, but there's a new management company who're currently proving incompetent so you need to call the groundsmen hut itself and book with them for the forseeably future.
